This is LEA BEAD™ #142, "SEATTLE SEAHAWKS". Seahawks fans, you've got to have this bead! Handmade in the Seattle team colors of blue and green on a white background. You won't find another bead quite like it!
LEA BEADS™ are a Silverocity® exclusive! The owner of Silverocity® (Kelly) designs and makes the murano glass bead. When she has made several beads in several styles, she ships them to a silversmith in Texas who mounts the beads to a solid sterling silver core. The core is stamped with our name on one side and LEA 925 on the other side. Lea was the middle name of Kelly's stillborn daughter, Christina Lea. The beads were designed in her memory. Christina Lea (pronouced like Lee, not Leah) was born on January 14, 1984. She would be in her thirties now, but it feels like just yesterday for Kelly. Kelly wanted to do something in Christina Lea's honor, and came up with the idea to make these beautiful, exclusive beads! Christina's first name was too long to stamp on the charms, so she went with her middle name, Lea.
When Kelly makes the beads, she makes only 100 of each design. She actually started to just make 50 at a time, but will make the other 50 when the first 50 start to run low. So you may see them "out of stock", but this just means that the first batch of 50 are gone. If it reads "Out of Stock" and also reads RETIRED, they are gone for good, and the only way to buy them would be to find someone else who has one and try to buy it from them. There are a few people who are buying anywhere from two to ten of these beads at a time, so it could be that they plan to sell them once they are retired.
The first five designs are sold out and retired with the exception of Blue Bubbles, #101. That was the very first bead Kelly made and the first to sell out, until she found a stash of them that she had forgotten she put away! She just recently found this bag of beads when we were moving things from the old building to the new, and we will be listing them again shortly.
These beads have become so popular that we may soon offer more than 100 of each bead on future beads to be made only. We cannot and will not go back on our word on the beads that have already been made and sold. Buyers of those beads were promised that they have one out of 100 ever to be made, and we will hold to and keep that promise. So the first 125 beads that were made will not be made again, unless we have only made the first 50 of them. In that case, of course, Kelly has or will make an additional 50. Some of these beads are already sold out and she has made the second batch of 50, but we are waiting for them to come back from the silversmith, along with many more new designs she has made! It is the new designs that we will probably offer 200 of in total; the ones that have not yet been debuted. If you think about it, that's only four per state. Chances are still great that you still will not run into anyone else who wears the same beads! 100 of each style just goes too fast and Kelly has a hard time coming up with new designs sometimes. Or finds herself making designs that are too similar either to her own, previous designs, or to other famous name beads she has seen, and we don't want that!
LEA BEADS™ have been around for a little over two years, and we have already seen replicas of these beads online. We are sort of OK with this though, because they are not stamped with Lea 925 or with Silverocity on the other side. If, however, you do see LEA BEADS™ offered for sale anywhere other than on our website or in our eBay store with our company name and Lea 925, please contact us immediately!
We have many more designs coming shortly, so stay tuned!
The next batch of LEA BEADS™ will be slightly more expensive due to the rising cost of silver. Actually, silver is down right now, but it is up significantly from the last time we had the beads mounted to their cores. On top of that, the silversmith raised his labor rate. So beads #126 and higher will be sold at $9.90. We had an exact 95 cent increase, and we are only adding that exact cost increase to our previous price. If our cost goes down by the time we send the second batch of 50 charms in to be mounted to the silver cores, we will decrease our price by the same. We did have a cost decrease once before, and we were able to offer that batch of 50 at $8.49. The next time we had more made, our cost was back up to the original cost, and we had to raise the price again.
Till we ship the heavy beads to the silversmith, pay the silversmith for the cores and his labor, pay the shipping back to us, we do not make much money on these beautiful beads, so we have to charge more for them when our cost goes up. If we do not do this, the organization that we send the proceeds to will get less money than what they were promised per bead sold. Our proceeds go to an organization that helps people with monetary funding to stay in hotels near the hospital when their baby is in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Many of the babies in this particular NICU have been flown in from other hospitals because this hospital specializes in newborn care. The families of babies flown in to this hospital live too far to commute back and forth to visit their baby, so this organization raises money for the families to stay in the hotel across the street. If we can only send them $3 per bead sold, that doesn't sound like much, but the more designs Kelly makes. the more we can send. This is an organization that is near and dear to her heart. Thank you for contributing!
